I See Them Assessment Creepin'

As I'm still struggling to get over my holiday mood (constantly holiday dreaming), I've come to face the fact that mid-semesters are already lurking around the corner. I'm not too sure how I feel about that yet but from previous experiences, I don't think I feel too good; but then again, who really likes assessment right? + Speaking of mid-semester, September is a week away (engineering ball a month away...) which is crazy to think we are 3/4 through the year! Hopefully strawberries will still be as cheap this time next month...

So Lyn's birthday was last Wednesday and our family celebrated true Asian style. Originally, the adults made Lyn, Jenny and I sit on our own table since there wasn't enough space on the main table but we eventually managed to squeeze onto the one table.

Josh and I gave her a whole box of salted caramel macarons and a whole chocolate truffle cake which I believe Lyn ate all by herself.

Wednesday's are usually good day for me. I only have one lecture + Jan Power Farmer's Markets is on at the city. I drool every time I think of Bagel Boy's bagels.

Last week, Josh and I went to Rogue Bar + Bistro for date night was blown away yet again with their new menu. I discovered that they're undergoing exciting changes in the restaurant and I'm anticipating to see it all Dan and his team's plan come together.

Rogue Bar + Bistro has done such an amazing job in the past year and a half since it first opened. Their team puts an incredible amount of effort into the tiniest detail and executes everything from their food, plating (it is honestly art on a plate) drinks, playlist choice, decor, atmosphere, service and basically everything wonderfully. It's no surprise that it's Josh and my favourite place to eat.

Aloha readers, I hope you have all been well and enjoyed the EKKA holiday (for those of you from Brisbane). I didn't go to the EKKA and I haven't been for a few years now but I still got to enjoy the fireworks from a lovely view. I had to go to university though to hand in my portfolio for one of subjects which was not very ideal but oh well, life goes on.

Yup so apart from that and study, Josh and I went to Lock 'n' Load Bistro for dinner especially since I've been craving their sweet potato fries for ageeeees. I'd been here for brunch and not for dinner so I was pretty excited to check their dinner menu out. (I was also worried that they'd closed the kitchen since we arrived an hour later than the original reservation time).

Red wine | Trapiche Malbec (Mendoza, Argentina) // I really enjoyed this wine
Entree | Scallops in the half shell, crisp pork belly, sweet corn purée (gf)

Hunter Va lley 80 day grain fed eye fill et with mushroo m purée, potato gratin and
horseradish butter | Sweet potato fries (mmmmm) | Confit pork bell y, smoked celeriac purée, green beans, caramelized ale cider jus (gf)

A few days ago, Priceline had a 40% all haircare products and I definitely jumped at the chance to get a few items including this Argan Oil of Morocco! I only run a few drops between my hair and my hair just feels so silky and smooth. I'm obsessed with this Moroccan oil -- 10/10 would recommend this product to everyone.

Thought I'd keep this post short and simple xx

So Naive, Yet So.

How could this be done, by such a smiling sweetheart?
Oh you're so naive, yet so.
-- Naive by The Kooks

Recently, one of the playlists I follow on Spotify updated their songs and I found myself listening to 'Naive' by The Kooks. Within the first few seconds, so many high school memories circled my head and on that exact day, a friend who I hadn't contacted for a while messaged me. What a coincidence. Isn't funny how certain things can do that to you though? Whether it'd be a song, scent, place or even someone's voice? Anyway, I thought I would just share that little thought of mine.

Fact that it's strawberry season makes me so happy // Steph's first raw cake experience at Raw // Columbian Rose Hannah bought for Paul's family // Acaí bowl dates after uni with Melisa and Gracie

I don't think I've said this on my blog before but Josh and I dedicate one night of the week for what we call 'date night'. Basically it's just our night to go eat and spend time with each other in the midst of our week. This week we went to Siam Samran in West End after hearing great reviews about their authentic Thai food! I've actually become such a big fan of Thai food this year, green curry is definitely my favourite.

I'm attempting to eat out less and save more $$$ and so far so good. Doing this will also benefit me in something I'm currently working on. For the record, my lovely aunt (Dylan's mother) took me out for dinner before work at Nagomi along Eagle Street Pier.

Stay bright and beautiful xx

Food Adventures: Kiss the Berry Acaí Bar

Location // Shop 1, 99 Creek Street, Brisbane CBD

When I first discovered acaí bowls last year, I was determined to try one as soon as possible in Brisbane but I was devastated when I never made it to Kiss the Berry's pop-up store they opened last year along Adelaide St (my timetable was horrible). Nevertheless, once I found out they were opening a store on Creek St. within the CBD, I eagerly awaited their opening.

The interior cleverly incorporates a trendy, minimalistic design decorated with cute decor emphasising the environmentally conscious environment all the while complementing the narrow store. Kiss the Berry specialises in acaí [ah-sah-ee] bowls and smoothies however also serve coffee and healthy treats. For those of you that are wondering what acaí is, it's considered as one the most powerful and nutritious super foods that originated in the Amazon rainforest of Brazil. Acaí is also rich in essential fatty acids, antioxidants, amino acids, fiber, vitamins and minerals and also low in sugar! Not to mention it's also super delicious.

Original KTB Bowl

My personal favourite has to be their Original KTB Bowl. The acaí blend contains organic acaí, banana, strawberries and apple juice topped with homemade granola (best granola, seriously), banana, strawberries, chia seeds and locally sourced honey. My homemade acaí bowls never seem to taste quite the same as theris. Plus, it's decently priced at $8.50 for a regular bowl and $11.00 for a large. For those who prefer more personalised bowls, you can add toppings and even coyo.

Kiss the Berry also has a large presence on social media so be sure to check them out on Facebook and especially Instagram where you can even earn free bowls by posting photos! For their first birthday, they ran a week long promotion with special deals every day of the week.

I definitely recommend Kiss the Berry as it one of my favourite places in the CBD. I can't stop going back for more and since summer is coming, I can foresee myself there at least once a week.

Thank you

Hello hello, I hope you've all had a good week! I'm still trying to escape the fact uni had started but I really need to get out of this holiday state I'm currently still stuck in. Do any of you feel like this also happens to you?? I hope I'm not the only one...

Since Winter is drawing to an end (let's be honest, Winter in Brisbane? HA), I have rediscovered my love for Acai Bowls (it's too cold to eat them during Winter)! After numerous talks about taking Steph to try a bowl, Steph finally got to experience her first Acai Bowl at Kiss the Berry along with her first Bagel Boys bagel from the Jan Powers Farmer's Market in the city. I can tell you all that she loved every bite of both.

I went back a few days later // Original KTB Bowl

Last week, last Thursday night to be exact, Passion Tree held a Korean BBQ party for all our staff members and to farewell Paul who is going back to America in a few days time -sad sad face-. As you can see from the photos below, we held the BBQ in the store's carpark, yep we're very classy people ;)

There was sooooo much meat

And speaking of Passion Tree, new cakes have introduced and now the showcase looks prettier than ever before.

Ooohhh and also, I finally got to visit Kwan Brothers located in Fortitude Valley after hearing all about it on social media! Unfortunately Josh, Paul and Hannah went before I finished work so by the time I got there I only got to try two things; but at least I had it all to myself haaha.

Since it was a Saturday night, I wasn't very surprised to see it absolutely packed especially since last time we tried coming here, they told us we had to wait for at least forty-five minutes.

Shaking Beef Salad (GF) | Green Papaya, Chilli, Ruby Grapefruit and Peanuts

Didn't really want to end on an unhappy note but lately I've just been feeling waves of sadness (not PMS I promise). Eileen also said she was experiencing the same thing and even researched about it and told me it's something called a 'Quarter-life Crisis'?! Sometimes I just get confused about what I'm doing and where I'm going with my life which makes me doubt myself and say and do stupid things (I'm unsure how that relates with one another...). And not to mention I'm feeling more self-conscious than ever... Anyway, I'm trying to get rid of all the negative thoughts and replacing them with happy happy thoughts and you should all too!

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. It really, really, really, really, really means a lot to me
